If it is painful to bend forward and you are having sharp pain, then you likely have an injured disc. Symptoms that indicate disc injury include: pain being worst in the morning, riding in a car is painful, standing. Icing your back, walking, and lying on your stomach tend to alleviate the pain in disc conditions.

What causes Disc Injury?

Bending forward at the waist especially with added weight increases the pressure within an intervertebral disc. Too much weight or repetitive bending and twisting at the waist can lead to weakening and injury of the ligaments that hold the fluid inside of a disc resulting in pain and catching of the lower back.

What are Symptoms of Disc Injury?

Sharp pain when bending forward at the waist along with muscular spasms in the lower back are present with an injured disc. Pain is often worst in the morning, when riding in a car and when sitting. Icing your back, walking, and lying on your stomach tend to alleviate the pain in disc conditions.

How do you treat Disc Injury?

Avoiding positions that increase the pressure within a disc and icing is important during the initial injury. Adjustments and ART treatment to the area will decompress and relieve muscle tightness and spasms. A core strengthening and home care program will be essential to assure this problem does not reoccur.

Did you know?

Pain and stiffness is often worst in the morning due to the disc absorbing water and nutrients throughout the night which subsequently increases the disc’s pressure.

I’ve had an excellent experience at Lincoln Spine & Sports Chiropractic. When I first started there I couldn’t walk across the street without my calves in excruciating pain. Dr Leon has perform A.R.T. on my calves 4 times now and I feel great! My pain went from 10+ to maybe 1 or 2 occasionally. I highly recommend them for A.R.T.!!!
