Pain on the inside of your calf, usually against the lower leg bone, is where shin splints make their presence felt. Shin splints occur most often when a physical activity, such as running or walking, is increased quickly in a short period of time.

What causes Shin Splints?

Shin splints is a focused type of tendon injury. If some of the deep calf muscles get overworked, their tendons pull hard on the inside of the bone causing some major irritation.

How do you treat Shin Splints?

There are many different things that can cause shin splints. Wrong footwear, too much activity, tight calves and other problems can call cause shin splints. The only way to be sure you’re addressing the right problem is a comprehensive exam. A.R.T., stretching and strengthening are almost always used together to solve the problems.
